FLORENCE-The Florence Police Department released a statement concerning an incident that took place on Saturday, November 11 regarding a member of the canine unit:
“Florence Police are investigating an incident involving one of our department owned canine’s from over the weekend.
On the night of November 11th a canine owned and cared for by department employee’s, escaped a fenced in enclosure and bit a 60-year-old female.
The female is being treated at a local hospital and has undergone surgery to repair injuries sustained from the bite. At this time the canine has been removed from duty pending the departmental investigation outcome.
This is a very tragic incident and the Florence Police Department wishes to extend our deepest sympathy to those involved.
We will continue to investigate this incident and provide information as it becomes available.”
