FLORENCE-On March 29, 2026, a Florence Police Department officer observed a white Ford F-150 traveling eastbound on Florence Boulevard near 3609 Florence Boulevard (Tri-Green Equipment). The driver was following other vehicles too closely and failing to maintain their lane.
A traffic stop was conducted for the observed violations. During the stop, the officer obtained consent to search the vehicle. As a result of the search, approximately 2.6 pounds of cocaine were located inside the vehicle.
This incident serves as a reminder that traffic stops from what some see as “minor” traffic violations can uncover serious criminal activity. The Florence Police Department remains committed to proactive enforcement to keep illegal drugs off our streets and to ensure the safety of our community.
Felipe Garcia Mendez (driver) and Salvador Calleja Jimenez (passenger) were arrested for drug charges. They are currently confined at the Lauderdale County Detention Center on a $500,000/each bond. Felipe Garcia Mendez and Salvador Calleja Jimenez are innocent until proven guilty.
