The Street Department is working  FLORENCE-The Florence Police Department issued a statement concerning a traffic stop that resulted in Officers giving aid to an unconscious passenger in a vehicle coming from Colbert County into Lauderdale County
“On July 14, 2021, officers from Colbert County and Florence Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in Florence City. Prior to the stop, officers from Colbert County observed a male slumped over in the front passenger seat of the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle was slapping the passenger in what looked like an effort to waken the passenger.
Officers conducted a traffic stop in order to check on the welfare of the passenger. When contact was made with the passenger, he was in dire need of medical attention. Officers proceeded to administer five separate doses of NARCAN to the male and performed chest compressions on the male until he began to breathe again on his own. He was taken to the hospital where he received treatment for an opiate overdose and was later released.
Officers recovered multiple pieces of drug paraphernalia and Fentanyl from the vehicle. Fentanyl is a highly potent drug, which greatly increases the risk of overdose or death. We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the officers involved for their actions and quick response of officers from both Colbert and Lauderdale county.”
