FLORENCE-According to a report from the Florence Police Department a man who was in the last mayoral race in Florence has been arrested on a felony warrant out of Mississippi.

“On September 2, 2025, the Florence Police Department was contacted by the Itawamba County Sheriffโs Office in Mississippi regarding a subject that had an active felony warrant in our jurisdiction.
FPD officers arrived at the 100 block of Butler Drive to make contact with Anthony Britnell Jr. Britnell was placed under arrest.
The the felony warrant out of Mississippi is for Embezzlement, Under Contract (97-23-25). He was taken to the Lauderdale County Detention Center where he will wait to be extradited by the Itawamba County Sheriffโs Office.”
Britnell was one of seven candidates seeking the office of mayor.ย Former Florence Police Chief Ron Tyler who was also in the race for mayor won the race without a run-off.
