FLORENCE – According to Florence Fire Chief Jeffrey Perkins, the brand-spanking new ladder truck that rolled up for presentation Tuesday, is an extremely important asset to the City’s ability to protect lives and property.
He said that even though the new equipment is an important addition to Florence’s fire departments, the City’s most important asset are the Fire Fighters and all of the people who support them. Of course unintended, Fire Station Number One was devoid of Fire Fighters and Fire Trucks at the time of the presentation ceremony because the personnel and equipment were out of the Station on an emergency call.
Mayor Steve Holt, along with the City Commission have been planning for some time to upgrade the equipment and facilities of the Fire Department throughout the City. This truck, with its equipment cost Florence around $900-Thousand. Another truck, a pumper which is set to arrive in the next couple of months, will cost about a half-million dollars. Holt said that the best way to thank the Fire Fighters for their dedication and service to Florence. While the ceremony was held at the main Station One, it will be operated from Station Five on cox Creek Parkway.
