FLORENCE– Florence Arts and Museums is excited to announce its upcoming KD Art Lab fall sessions. Designed to spark creativity and teach art skills, these two program blocks offer hands-on classes for ages 7–14.
Block One:
  • History Through Art with Barb Hendricks
    • Wednesdays from 1:30-3
    • September 17 through October 22
    • Ages 9-12
    • Overview: Explore history through the lens of visual art in this six-week course.
  • Comics with Kayla McKinney
    • Tuesdays from 4-5:30
    • September 2 through October 7
    • Ages 12-14
    • Overview: Students will learn comic history, story development, and illustration techniques to create their own mini comic book. This class will culminate in a group readathon.
Block Two:
  • Make/Move/Play: Process Art Workshop with Erin Dailey
    • Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00
    • October 8 through November 12
    • Ages 7-9
    • Overview: A hands-on, movement-based exploration of artmaking and creativity.
  • Picture Perfect Art at KD with Anna Grinnell
    • Thursdays from 4-5:30
    • October 9 through November 13
    • Ages 12-14
    • Overview: Students will develop skills across multiple media using both 2D and 3D materials.
  • Intro to Watercolor and Plein Air with Stephanie Standish
    • Saturdays from 3:30-5:00
    • October 18 through November 22
    • Ages 12-14
    • Overview: This course introduces watercolor techniques and color theory, transitioning into plein air painting in Wilson Park and downtown Florence.
Registration is $25 per student and the fee is nonrefundable. Registration will open up on August 18th, 2025, at www.florencealmuseums.com/kdartlab. These programs are made possible by the generous support of the Kennedy-Douglass Volunteers. The Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is located at 217 E Tuscaloosa Street, Florence, AL, and is open Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Southall House, just next to the Art Center office, at 209 E.
