Association President Donna Jo Curtis of Athens made the announcement before an audience of 103 cattle producer leaders from 45 counties. The restaurants receiving the most votes in the online contest were (alphabetical order):

  • Conestoga Steakhouse, Dothan
  • Fire Steakhouse, Atmore
  • McLin’s Restaurant, Daleville
  • Nick’s Ristorante, Huntsville
  • The Bright Star, Bessemer

A team of anonymous judges then visited each of the Top 5 restaurants to determine who serves the best steak in Alabama. On October 26, ACA leaders were onsite at the winning restaurant to present the winning award and crown “Alabama’s Best Steak”!

Since its inception on July 1, the contest has drawn consumers around the state to an online survey to cast their vote for their favorite steak restaurant. The statewide contest included 147 restaurants being nominated and 7,242 votes cast online. The voting ended September 21. The Alabama’s Best Steak contest is a part of a statewide celebration of October Beef Month.

The results are in and the Sultan of Steaks has been named! The Bright Star Restaurant is the winner of the Alabama’s Best Steak contest, sponsored by the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association. Since its inception on July 1st, the contest recorded over 7000 online votes and 150 nominated restaurants across the state by consumers. On September 27, the Top 5 restaurants were named based on the online vote tally and three anonymous judges were sent out to visit these restaurants in order to determine the winner. The Bright Star received the most total points by the judges based on the following categories: Appearance, Overall Flavor, Juiciness, and Tenderness.

Jimmy Koikos, co-owner of The Bright Star, said, “What an honor! The Bright Star Restaurant is thrilled to be recognized by the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association as serving the best steak in Alabama. The Bright Star has been serving fine steaks for over 105 years and is proud of our accomplishment with the Cattlemen’s Association. Kudos to our chefs and servers who provide the delicious steaks and great dining experience for our guests. We want to share this award with our entire Bright Star family.”

An onsite presentation took place at The Bright Star on Thursday, November 1, at 2 p.m. by the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association.
