Felton L. Smith – Obituary

Felton L. Smith, 74, of Florence passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018. Visitation Saturday, March 31st from 6 to 8 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Central Heights. Funeral service Sunday, April 1st at 2 p.m. at Central Heights Baptist Church with Brother Roger Houston and Wayne Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Central Heights Community Cemetery.

Felton was a native of Lauderdale County and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Central Heights Baptist Church. Felton retired from a 30-year logging career. At the beginning of his career, Felton was an innovator in the tree length logging industry and had a passion for restoring antique vehicles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buford E. and Edna Rogers Smith; brother, Donnie Smith; nephew, Donnie Smith; and niece, Mendy Pennington.

Felton is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Patty Young Smith; sons, Wesley and Chad Smith (Mandi); three grandchildren, Danielle, Emma and Cash Smith; brother, James and Alton Smith; sisters, Linda Martin (Jerry) and Jennifer Pennington (Richard); brother-in-law, Donald Young; sister-in-law, Della Brantley; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Brad Martin, Jerrod Martin, Kevin Montgomery, Steve Smith, Hunter Smith and Tim Ray. Honorary pallbearers include the Waterloo High School Class of 1963.

The family expresses special thanks to Dr. Danny McFall, Dr. Felix Morris, nurses and techs on the 5th floor and emergency room doctors and nurses of ECM Hospital; Shoals Home Healthcare and Shoals EMS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
