FLORENCE — The Board of Directors at Shoals Christian School is pleased to announce that Mrs. Felicia Jones has been named Head of School, effective immediately.  Board Chairman Jim Spinks shared the announcement with the school community on February 3. Mrs. Jones has served as Interim Head of School since Jim Koan vacated the position in October, 2016.

“Mrs. Jones has shown her love and devotion to the school by going above and beyond what some might consider normal for an interim position,” stated Spinks. “Her passion for SCS and her desire for our school to grow and thrive has been evident.  When Mrs. Jones has faced a new situation, she has met it with the same steadfastness and resolve as in the classroom for the last 15 years. With this kind of dedication, talent, and commitment to Shoals Christian, Mrs. Felicia Jones is uniquely qualified and the perfect person to lead our school.”

Jones earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama and holds a master’s in English from Middle Tennessee State University. She was a professor at Middle Tennessee State University and an adjunct instructor at Northwest Shoals Community College. Her teaching experience includes 17 years in the secondary and postsecondary education sector; 15 of those being at Shoals Christian, serving as English department chair for two years.

“I am honored and humbled to serve Shoals Christian as the next Head of School,” Jones said. “It is truly a blessing to work at a school that not only values the importance of a quality education but also supports a culture that inspires students to boldly use their knowledge and God-given talents to impact the world for Jesus Christ.”

She is married to former University of North Alabama football standout and Hall of Famer, Kenyatta Jones. They have two children who are SCS students:  Kenan, age 11, and Mikayla, age 8. Jones considers the school an extension of her immediate family.

“Shoals Christian holds a special place in my heart,” Jones said.  “When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, the response from faculty, students, parents, and alumni was overwhelming.  This community of people flooded the school, their churches, and social media with prayers for my healing, and I felt every last one of them.”

Under Jones’ leadership, and discussions with faculty, staff and students, the word “valued” has been adopted as a focus for the rest of the school year, and a social media challenge for the month of February was launched to share that intent with the school and community as a whole.

“We are taking Shoals Christian to new heights,” Jones said. “I am expecting a revival.  As Head of School, my focus is to build and establish positive relationships and to be intentional about making the school community feel valued.  I have a tremendous opportunity placed before me, and I am eager for this new phase of my educational career to be put into action.”
