ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson has issued a statement regarding the arrest of one suspect in the theft of dirt bikes and ATV’s on Monday, November 17:
“Early Monday morning there was a theft of three ATV’s and two dirt bikes from behind a residence located at 420 Congress Drive. The owner posted on Facebook that the property had been stolen.
Early this morning the owner was on Facebook and saw where people had been riding ATV’s and dirt bikes at night on Charity Lane in Hazel Green.
The owner of the bikes went to Charity Lane and located one of his bikes. He then saw a white male riding one of his ATV’s and he chased him eventually losing him.
Our department was notified and investigators Mickey Hart and Jonathan Caldwell went to Hazel Green and meet the victim. Investigators arrested Lucas Riley Bruder for theft of property 1st degree.
Bruder told investigators he saw one the ATV’s on Craig’s List for sale. He said he was able to get the address of the owner and he was going to steal the ATV but saw the other ATV and bike and took them also. All the ATV’s and dirt bikes were recovered.
Bruder was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail. Our department was assisted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. “
