Faay Leray “Ray” Turley

Faay Leray “Ray” Turley, age 78 of Medon, passed away on September 23, 2021 in Jackson.

Ray was born on April 23, 1943 in Bloomington, IN, one of ten children born to the late Lloyd Fern and Tressie Woods Turley. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He went on to work for the Madison County Sherriff’s Department retiring after 20 years of service. Ray loved collecting horses, eagle statues, and any marine corps memorabilia. He loved his family dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight siblings, four infant great grandchildren he never got to know, and one special great grandchild, Michael Cage Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife, Bessie Turley of Medon; children, John “Marty” Williams (Gina) of Jackson and Sherry Webb of Dyersburg; ten grandchildren, Timothy Azbill (Jessica), Chris Mitchell (Holly), Rachel Caron, Lena Hobbs (Chad), Joshua Mitchell (Hope), Carrie Williams, Dustin Mitchell (Terra), Briana Morris, Patrick Morris, and John-Coda Williams; seventeen great grandchildren, sister, Tina Turley.

The family will receive friends and loved ones on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. officiated by Bro. Damon Olsen. Military honors for Ray will be rendered by the United States Marine Corps.
