Evelyn Grace Berns Maiden
September 11, 1916 – February 5, 2020
Evelyn was born to Christian John and Grace Thunnell Berns in Farnham NY, a small lakeside village SW of Buffalo. On 25 Dec 1940 she married John Oliver Maiden.
She received a BA in Ed from U of Ohio, an MA in Elem Ed from State U of NY, and taught K-12 in OH, NY, WV, MD, and AZ.
Her hobbies included reading, knitting, crocheting, sewing, doing needlepoint, playing the organ, and playing Scrabble whenever she could find an opponent. She traveled extensively throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico as well as Europe, Australia, Israel and China.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and brothers Milton and Melvin. She is survived by: daughters Barbara (Earl) Moses, Sally (Robert) Hershberger, and Judy (Richard) Ray; grandchildren Jim Moses, John and Sarah Hershberger, Chris and Steve Ray, and Holly Ray Poulivaati; great-grandchildren Ella and Annaliese Hershberger, and Olivia, Alexis, and Audrey Poulivaati.
The family would like to thank Kindred Hospice, and the CNAs and nurses at Willowbrook Court at Magnolia Trace for their loving care, especially Tina and Savitri. A very special thanks to Evelyn’s devoted friend Sue Taylor at Willowbrook Court.
A memorial service is planned for 2:30 pm Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Weatherly Heights Baptist Church. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 to 2:30 pm.
