EvelynEvelyn D. Riggs, 81, of Huntsville, passed away Friday. A very special lady has left us. She gave us books, poetry, dreams, and smiles.

An early high school graduate from Rogersville High School, she enjoyed and carried through her life a love for oratorical activities which she used to express her love for history and community.
Mrs. Riggs had a passion for the rights God gave us all. She joined a team which fought for the rights of women to be equals as spouses – all the way to the Alabama Supreme Court. They won! A lover of history and community, Mrs. Riggs was active in organizations such as the Steam Boat Gothic House, Hope Place, Historic Huntsville, Huntsville museums, Alabama Women organizations, Democratic Women, United Methodist Women, Huntsville Arts and so many more.

She retired from Civil Service after beginning her career in the Von Braun era. She served as an executive secretary and major contributor to our space industry within the historical Von Braun team.

Survivors include son, Winter Forests of Huntsville; daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Scott (Jerry) of New Hope; brother, Dr. Gene Dickinson (Mary) of Lincolnton, GA; and nephew, Dale Dickinson of Jacksonville, FL. She was preceded in death by her father, Murphy Dickinson, her mother, Autie Dickinson; and nephew, Joe Dickinson.

We will miss her smiles and dreams.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel with the Rev. Coy Hallmark officiating. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens in Florence.
