Mrs. Evelenia Crow, age 95, went to live with her heavenly father, Tuesday, July 15, 2014. She passed away at her home in the Colbert Heights community surrounded by her family. Evelenia was born in Winston County Jan. 16, 1919 to Belle Batchelor Pounders and Fletcher Henderson Pounders. Evelenia married Glendon Crow in Sept. 1941, and they moved to Colbert County after he graduated from Berea College. She attended Florence Teachers College (now known as the University of North Alabama). She retired after 25 years from the Colbert County Board of Education. Evelenia was a faithful member of the FBC Colbert Heights for 68 years, where she served actively for 33 years as a Sunday School teacher. She loved gardening and homemaking and opened her home to many family, friends and evangelists.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Glendon Lewis Crow, Sr., two sisters, Mabel McNutt, Haleyville, and Hazel Thomas of Pell City.
Evelenia is survived by two sons, Glendon L. Crow, Jr. (Brenda) and Ronald Crow (Jan). She is also survived by four grandchildren, Chelbi Andersen (Rod), Brandon,FL; Jennifer Vandiver (Jason), Melissa Kiel (Jamie), and Ron Crow, Jr. Five great-grandchildren, Jacob Vandiver, Jaxton Vandiver, Sarah Kate Kiel, Audrey Kiel, and Lydia Kiel; and several special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge special thanks to Hospice of Tennessee Valley especially: Shellie Grimwood, RN; Bro. Eddie Wix, chaplain; Tamekia Key, CNA; Kayla Brewer, CNA; caregivers: Doris Alewine, Linda Bratton, Sandy Isbell, Deta Wright, and Margie Vandiver (each who took special care of our mother/grandmother.
Visitation will be 1:30pm until 3:00pm Friday, July 18, 2014 at First Baptist Colbert Heights. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm with Bro. Seth Hood and Bro. Gatus Cheatham officiating. Burial will be at Shoals Memorial Gardens in Tuscumbia.
Pallbearers will be Ron Crow, Jr., Jamie Kiel, Steve Lyle, Jason Vandiver, Bobby Flanagan, and Leroy Willis.
Memorials may be made to the Building Fund or the Kitchen Fund at First Baptist Church Colbert Heights, 6000 Woodmont Drive, Tuscumbia, AL 35674.
