Evangeline Vafinis, age 85, of Memphis, Tennessee, died, Friday, July 31, 2015.
The visitation will be Monday, August 3rd from 6-9:00p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral will be Tuesday, August 4th at 12:00p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sheffield Oakwood Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, George John Vafinis, and daughter, Sophia Vafinis Shelton.
George and Vangie moved to the Shoals area and started a business named George’s Steak House in 1956, a business which developed into the now successful restaurant named George’s Steak Pit. It is now owned and operated by their son Frank Vafinis. Seven years ago Vangie returned to her home town of Memphis, Tennessee where she resided until her recent death which was caused by complications due to surgery and cancer. She was loved by many old friends and acquaintances in both the Shoals area and Memphis.
Survivors include her children, Victoria Vafinis Horne of Cleveland, Georgia, Andrea Vafinis Tramel of Snellville, Georgia, John George Vafinis of Memphis, Tennessee, and Frank George Vafinis of Sheffield, Alabama.
There will be a celebration of her life conducted by her many friends and church in Memphis at a later date.
In lieu of flowers you can make donations to St. Jude Hospital in Memphis or The Annuniciation Greek Orthodox Church in Memphis.
