Evalyn Ruth McCafferty Watters, 89, of Rogersville passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025. Evalyn was born April 15, 1935 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Alabama to Eugene and Daisey Mae McCafferty. She was a graduate of Woodlawn High School in Birmingham. She continued her education on a two-year scholarship to Alabama College for Women in Montevallo. She then met the love of her life and started a family. She later returned to Florence State University, now UNA, for two more years. Evalyn was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rogersville, Volunteer Emergency Medical Tech and Rogersville Civitan Club. She had a passion for traveling and a good book. She held jobs at East Lauderdale News and in the Lauderdale County School System. But her most beloved job of all was being a mother to her three kids.

Visitation for Mrs. Watters will be Saturday, January 25th at Rogersville Funeral Home from 12-1 with a funeral service following in the chapel. A private family burial will be held. Pallbearers will be Richard Herston, Steve Pennington, John Richardson, John David Richardson, James Thornton, Wesley Cox, Brady Cox, and honorary, Jim Cox. Fred Karthaus and Jim Cox will be officiating.

Evalyn is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Watters; parents, Eugene and Daisey McCafferty. She is survived by her sons, Barry (Phyllis) Watters, Carl (Garnett) Watters; daughter, Esther (Jimmy) Thornton; grandson, James Thornton and his fiancé Abbie; numerous cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Rogersville Volunteer Fire Department or the Rogersville Public Library.
