Eva Lois Smith, 91, passed away Friday, November 18, 2016, at The Meadows. She was born November 12, 1925, to Willie P. and Beulah Ann Stanford Thornton. She lived in Memphis for 40 years before returning home to Mantachie in 1995. She was an active member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She enjoyed meeting with fellow senior citizens and playing dominoes, and simply socializing with other people. She never met a stranger.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 20, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with the Rev. Ronnie Goodwin and the Rev. Joe Coggins officiating. Alan Cates will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in the Stephens Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Lowery L. Smith (Judy) and William B. Smith, both of Mantachie, and Robert L. Smith (Jennine) of Hernando; one daughter, Linda C. Tidwell (Jerry) of Corinth; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale L. Smith; three brothers, Cecil Thornton, Troy Thornton, and Paul Thornton; one sister, Ruble Hankins; and her parents.
Pallbearers will be Barry Reynolds, Terry Jones, Glen Parrish, Jerry Foster, Scott Tidwell, and Bill Tidwell. Ann Smith will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.
