Eunice Eucellis Underwood, 93, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026 at the Red Bay Hospital. He was born and raised in Itawamba County, MS to Lois A. and Ethel Holcomb Underwood. He attended Banner School and then moved to Red Bay and graduated from Red Bay High School where he met the love of his life Sarah Ann McKinney. Eucellis joined the United States Navy and was discharged to Atlanta where he attended Georgia State University. He and Sarah had three children there before moving back to Red Bay in 1959. Eucellis then began working at Blue Bell and Sunshine and they welcomed another child. In the mid 60’s he opened City Hardware with Dexter Bostick and then Underwood True Value where you would find him most every day until he became ill in February. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Red Bay, AL.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 4, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Red Bay with Bro. Bill Harper and Kevin Williams officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 3, 6-8 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Red Bay City Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by three children, Phillip H. Underwood (Shelia), Donald Underwood and Mary Underwood; grandchildren, Cami Hughes, Jennifer Lane (Jonathan), Darrell Underwood (Becky) and Chad Hughes (Mike); six great-grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sarah Ann Underwood; daughter, Nancy McCalpin; daughter-in-law, Tammy Underwood; grandson, Paul Wesley Hughes; his parents and a sister, Eloise Page.
