She was a graduate of Druid City Hospital School of Nursing, and her career as a registered nurse spanned 38 years, most of which was spent partnering with her favorite orthopedic surgeon. She loved being a nurse, and her caretaking spirit was evident in everything she did. She acted on her passion for helping others with her involvement with the Lauderdale County Medical Alliance, in which she served multiple leadership roles, including president; and with her work to establish a low-cost medical clinic in the Shoals. Her love for her work and for Alabama football were only exceeded by her love for her family and for her Lord. She married her true love, Dr. Benjamin F. “Frank” Hatchett, Jr. on February 10, 1978 and she was devoted to him in every sense for the rest of her life. She was a loving wonderful mother to her daughter, Suzanne, and a generous, thoughtful stepmother to her stepdaughters, Anna B. Hatchett and Beth Norwood. She deeply loved her siblings, Rebecca Buckley, Eddie Buckley (Theresa), and Terry Walker (Allen); she adored her nieces, Sarah Grace and Shelly Buckley. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Edward H. Buckley, Sr.; and Eugenia Garrison Buckley. She brought many friends into her family’s community.
She was a life force in North Wood United Methodist Church, notably working to found the contemporary service. She cherished her role in the church and delighted in serving and praising the Lord.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to North Wood United Methodist Church or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
