ETOWAH COUNTY-Community Development Block Grants awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley will fund improvements to water and sewer systems and a park in Etowah County. Attalla will replace old, broken sewer lines along Hammond Circle that are causing backups, especially after heavy rains. The 101 residents of the Alford Court Public Housing apartments will directly benefit from the upgrades. The city is committing $100,000 in matching funds to the supplement the grant. Etowah County will upgrade water mains at Vaughn and County Creek roads as well as install three fire hydrants along Little Cove Road. On Vaughn Road, the county will install 6,400 feet of 6-inch PVC pipe and new fire hydrants at 1,000-foot intervals. County Creek Road will receive 1,600 feet of PVC pipe and new fire hydrants. The county is contributing $47,000 in matching funds.
