Esther Bobbitt Davis passed away at her home on January 4, 2015, due to complications of congestive heart failure. She was born in Raven, Virginia, the first of four children of George and Callie Bobbitt. Esther moved to Huntsville in 1957. She graduated from UAH and taught in the Huntsville Public school system for 26 years. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, the Twickenham Town Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Madison County Education Retirees Association, The Alabama Education Association, the NEA, and the Madison County Democratic Women’s Association. Esther and her late husband, Sam, were longtime supporters of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. They often worked together as a team delivering food and groceries for Meals on Wheels and The Grocery Assistance Program (GAP). During the Yuletide season they volunteered as servers and docents at Burritt on the Mountain.
Esther is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sam Davis, of Huntsville; and her brother, Gerald Bobbitt, of Manassas, VA. Survivors include three children, Sharon Sanders of Baton Rouge, LA, Elayne Shelton of Elkmont, Russell Shelton of Houston, TX; and two siblings, sister, Nancy Bobbitt Adler of Fort Worth, TX, and brother, Dairel Bobbitt, of Pounding Mill, VA; and six grandchildren.
