Funeral service for Estelle Hunter Smith, 95, will be Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Hartselle, Alabama with Bro. Charles Shaddix and Bro. David Currie officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home. Body will lie in state at the Church from 2:30 P.M. until service time.

Mrs. Smith died on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at her residence. She was born October 15, 1919, in Morgan County to Jim Hunter and Odie Lee Dutton Hunter. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank, brother, Edward Hunter, and sister, Louise Turner.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hartselle, a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the retired owner of Smith’s Florist. She was active in her community and numerous volunteer organizations. She was the 1987 recipient of the Alabama American Legion Auxiliary Woman of the Year and the First Runner Up of the National Woman of the Year. The Volunteer of the Year “Heart of the Community” honored her with the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award for her service to the American Legion Auxiliary. Mayor Dwight Tankersley and the City Council her presented her with a resolution declaring September 1, 2011 as Estelle H. Smith Day in Hartselle, Alabama. The Family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Comfort Care Hospice and our mothers caregivers; Jamie, Shelia, Linda and Ellen.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Smith, Jon Bolan, Shane Flippo, Jasper Flippo, James Pire, and Bob Wesson.
