Essie D. Jenkins – Obituary

EssieEssie D. Jenkins, affectionally called “Madear” was born July 24, 1927 in Greene County, Alabama to the late Hattie and Jim Robinson.

She confessed her hpoe in Christ at an early age and united with the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Mt. Hebron, Alabama.  She later moved to Chicago, Illinois where she united with the Rock of Ages Baptist Church.  After relocating back to Greene Couty, Alabama, she reunited with her home church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served faithfully.

She united in Holy Matrimony to the late Johnny Jenkins in June of 1943 and to this union 3 children were born.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie and Jim Robinson, a son; Warren Jenkins, a sister; Julie Burton and a brother; Warren Burton.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, 1 daughter; Joyce (James) Webster, Decatur, Alabama, one son; Johnny Jenkins of New Britain, Connecticut, five grandchildren; Marsha “Peaches” (Jeff) Grant of Boligee, Alabama, Minnette and James Webster, Jr. of Decatur, Alabama, Julie Monroe of North Carolina, Raymond Earl Brown, Meridian Mississippi, 6 great grandchildren; Keith Grant and Kevin Grant of Boligee, Alabama, Imani Ingram, Izarrah Buffaloe and Isaiah Buffaloe, North Carolina and a host of other relatives and friends.
