Ernest “Ernie” Stuart Moyer III, 82, of Waynesboro, TN passed away on Tuesday January 27, 2026, at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Lawrenceburg, TN following a brief illness. He is sadly missed by his family and friends.
Ernie was born on February 16, 1943, in Huntington, West Virginia, the second of three children born to his parents, Vera Altizer and Ernest Stuart Moyer, Jr, who proceed him in
death.
His family moved several times during Ernie’s formative years. He attended school in several states prior to his senior year. Ernie graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School in
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in 1961.
After high school, Ernie joined the United States Air Force, serving his county from 1963 to 1967 during the Vietnam War Era. Following his military service, he was employed in the
private sector at several business establishments.
In the late 1970’s Ernie met and married Phyllis Cole Moyer. Ernie and Phyllis made their home in Waynesboro, TN. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of one child, a
daughter, Leigh Alice Moyer, who survives.
At the time of his death, Ernie was a retired over the road truck driver. He was well known for his avocations, gardening and bird watching.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Cole Moyer.
In addition to his daughter, Leigh, he is survived by a son from a previous marriage, Ernest Stuart Moyer IV of San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Carole Moyer Hall of Crofton, MD, and
Dinah Moyer McLain of Apex, NC; his grandson Ethan Moyer of San Antonio, TX; several nieces and nephews; and special friend Jodi Rogoz Sesler of Waynesboro, TN.
In accordance with his wishes, Bates-Love Funeral and Cremation will serve the family through cremation. No public services are planned.
