Eric George Pickett passed away December 4, 2021. Eric had a deep, life-long connection to nature and abiding love for all living creatures. A passionate vegan, he had the courage to live his life in accordance with his convictions, in his own words to “live modestly and don’t be evil.”
Always seeking new adventures, Eric lived in Boston, San Francisco, and finally Taipei, Taiwan, where for 18 years he taught first English, and later other subjects, at a private middle school.
A true polymath, Eric’s love and aptitude for literature, philosophy, history, politics, film, theater, and especially music were astounding.
Instead of a traditional memorial service, Eric requested to be remembered through nature, with a purple martin house in your backyard, or art, with the music of Bjork, Tori Amos, Yes, Allan Holdsworth, Bill Bruford, or Beethoven.
Eric is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Brendalyn Pickett of Huntsville, AL; siblings, Joy (Glenn) Grabbe of Franklin, TN, Duane (Kathy) Pickett of Athens, AL, and Rachel (Brian) Turner of Durango, CO; nephew Vince Grabbe (Nashville, TN) and niece Jailyn Turner (Durango, CO).
If you wish to make a charitable donation in Eric’s memory, his favorite causes were farm-animal sanctuaries, such as Lefty’s Place Farm Sanctuary in Australia (https://www.facebook.com/leftysplace/).
