  Ercella "Marie" DempseyWe regret to announce the passing of Ercella “Marie” Dempsey, of Oxford, AL, who entered fully into the presence of the Lord on August 29th, 2022. Marie was a well-loved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. While she will be missed by many, we are thankful that she is again in the arms of her beloved husband, who recently passed away.

Having been born and raised in Calhoun County, Marie was a retiree of the U.S. Federal Government. After moving to Germany with her family in 1990, she became a valued member of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools system for many years, which left a lasting impression on both faculty and students alike. Marie returned to Oxford after her retirement, where she continued to offer her educational knowledge and expertise at Oxford Public Library. She was a proud member of Cheaha Baptist Church located in Oxford and proudly served the Lord with utmost devotion. Marie will be greatly missed by all, due to her overwhelming charm and compassion for others.

Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Darrell Dempsey; father Luther Howard; mother Ercelle Howard; brother James Lloyd Howard and sister Mary Virginia Webb; niece Pamela Haynes; and cousin Joni Badgett. Marie is survived by her son Edward (Christy) Dempsey and daughter Dana (Christopher) Johnson; grandchildren Summer (Chase) Greenwood, Garrett Dempsey, Blake Haynie, Brett (Shelby) Haynie, Tristan (Ariana) Ratliff, Bryson Johnson, and Jase Johnson; great-grandchildren Grayson Greenwood, Addison Kate Greenwood, Ryder Ratliff, and Maddox Haynie; nephew Mike (Rhonda) Howard; along with a host of additional nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date for immediate family.
