GeorgeGeorge Grady Coggin Jr. passed away January 2, 2015. He was married to Ruby Elizabeth “Bettye” Coggin for 49 years. George served in the U.S. Army and received the National Defense Service Medal. He was born in Savannah GA to George Grady Coggin and Mary Laverne Stroup Coggin. He was a member of Avondale United Methodist Church, as well as, Delta Sigma Phi, Alpha Phi Omega, Beta Alpha Psi, National Association of Cost Accountants and Financial Executives International. George graduated from Riverside High School in Decatur in 1946. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce and Business Administration from The University of Alabama in 1953. He worked as an accountant at Wolverine Tube in Decatur then transferred to Allen Park, MI. George obtained a Masters of Business Administration at Wayne State University in 1960. He worked as a Comptroller for Southern Maid Paper Products, Jacksonville, FL, Southland Paper Mills, Lufkin, TX. He also served as Alabama Comptroller, Group Comptroller, and Division Comptroller for Square D in Leeds, AL. George is survived by son, Richard MH Coggin (Bonnie), grandson, William E. Coggin (Hannah), Steven M. Coggin (Julie); great- granddaughters, Abby and Audrey. Visitation will be held tonight from 5 to 7 and the funeral service will be Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Johns-Ridout’s Southside. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
