Emily Lucas Gord, 94, of Toney, died Sunday. She was born in Athens, AL to the late William R. Lucas and Era Gooch Lucas. Mrs. Gord was retired from the State of Alabama Department of Transportation.
She loved her church activities and was a member of Madison Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an elder.
Emily loved to travel. She especially enjoyed traveling with family and was a proud great-grandmother.
Mrs. Gord was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John Vernon Gord, sisters, Flora Powell and Katherine Steflett, and brothers, Charles William and Samuel Gooch Lucas.
Survivors include her son, William Vernon Gord of Toney; daughter, Ann Gord Hawkins (Richard) of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, John Hawkins (Tracey) of Mesa, AZ, and Elizabeth Hawkins Hall (Nick); and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Grace and Lucas Alan Hall.
The family recognizes Thomasene Wright and Sarona Kohler of Home Instead for their faithful service to Emily.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, December 28 at Madison Cross Roads Presbyterian Church. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Kerry Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the cemetery adjacent to the church.
