It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Emily Hall Jones of Hamilton, AL. Emily left us on August 24, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in 1945, in Jasper, AL, the daughter of the late R.E. and Emily Hall. Emily graduated from Walker High School in 1963, and then attended Walker Junior College.
She worked in various capacities before starting her favorite job, that of homemaker and mother. Soon after moving from Tuscaloosa, to Hamilton, AL, she started working as secretary of Hamilton First United Methodist Church. A specific duty that she took pride in at the church was that of community outreach where she assisted people needing a little extra help meeting their physical needs. This included help paying power bills, buying groceries, and working with transient people just needing some gas money to get a few towns closer to wherever they were going.
Many of the best stories about Emily can’t be shared here but will be enjoyed among friends for years to come. Emily loved beach towns, seafood restaurants and finding deals at outlet malls. She was a connoisseur of Tab, then later Diet Coke, chocolates and any tomato purchased at a roadside stand. She enjoyed good food and loved to share it with others. She especially loved making chocolate chip cookies, anything her grandchildren requested, and the best Thanksgiving Dressing known to man, for her children and grandchildren. She also had a mischievous sense of humor, an infectious laugh and a loving disposition. However, she was no pushover. She believed in standing up for what is right and taught her children to do the same.
Remaining to cherish Emily’s memory are her husband of 60 years, Cannon Jones; children John Cannon Jones (Andala), Laura Anne Jones; and grandchildren Cannon Reece Jones, Emma Katherine Jones, and Addison Claire Jones; sister Ann Hall Strickland (Vaughn); and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding Emily in death are her parents, her brother Ed Hall, and her sister Pam Hall Jackson; nephew Andrew Strickland.
The family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank-you to the wonderful staff at Amedisys Hospice and the compassionate nurses at NMMC. To the caregivers at NMMC Nursing Home, who directly loved and cared for Emily over the last 2 years, words cannot express our gratitude and appreciation.
A small graveside service will be held at the family plot in Jasper at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Emily’s legacy of supporting and caring for the most vulnerable among us by making donations in Emily’s name to The Beacon of Pell City, whose outreach ministries began with Pell City First United Methodist Church. (www.beaconpellcity.org)
