Elsie M. Mikell, 94, broke the bonds of earth and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Elsie was born in Newark, New Jersey on November 28, 1930, to Howard M. Slockbower and Margaret Ross Slockbower, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin W. Mikell, and brother, John C. Slockbower.
Survivors include her children, Benjamin W. Mikell and wife, Sharon and Judy Williams; grandchildren, Stephanie Mikell, Ashley Mikell, Glenn Williams and spouse, Cory, and Melissa Tarrance and spouse, Mark; and great-grandchildren, Morgan McDonnough, Ben McDonnough, Samuel Inastrilla, and Hannah Tarrance; brother, Durwood Slockbower and wife, Barbara.
Elsie’s younger years were spent in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. At the age of 16, she moved to Hollywood, Florida, attending South Broward High School where she met her husband. They were married in San Diego where Ben was stationed in the Navy. In September of 1949, they returned to Hollywood, Florida where they raised their children.
Elsie worked in the banking industry for 35 years. She retired in 1990 from Barnett Bank of Vero Beach. They retired to the Ocala National Forest, Salt Springs, Florida. In 2004, they moved to Huntsville to be near family. Elsie loved the Lord, church, family, friends, boating, cooking, fishing, and porcelain painting.
