Elouise Mitchell, affectionately known as “Memaw,” passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on February 21, 1934, she was a lifelong resident of Sand Mountain, Alabama, where she spent the majority of her life.
Elouise was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Mitchell, with whom she shared 72 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife who dedicated her life to her husband and raising a family and loving her grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Flossy Ennis, and three brothers, W.M. “Bunk” Ennis, Thomas Ennis, and Myram Ennis.
Elouise is survived by her three children, Nancy Walker, Jeff Mitchell, and Kerry (Angelia) Mitchell; her grandchildren, Brooke Walker, Amie (Tommy) Mashburn, Ryan (Bianca) Mitchell, Leigh O’Neal, Brenna (Chaz) Roden, and Allie Mitchell; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Ann McMurray, Paulette (Richard) McGrath, and Paul Ennis.
Elouise was a natural caregiver. Caring for others was a part of who she was. She devoted many years to caring for her aging parents and, later, for her husband during his final years.
Known lovingly as “Memaw,” Elouise was also known for her wonderful cooking. Her kitchen was always a place where family gathered during holidays and birthdays or just for a listening ear.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Elouise and William were charter members of Calvary Baptist Church in Boaz, Alabama, where she faithfully attended, worshipped, and taught Sunday School for many years. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Boaz. Her faith was lived out not only within the church but also through the way she served and cared for others.
Elouise was a very active member of the Boaz and Albertville Hospital Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She volunteered countless days ministering to patients and their families, offering kindness, comfort, and a helping hand to those who needed it. Volunteering at the hospital was one of her most cherished accomplishments.
The family extends a special and heartfelt thank you to her sister, Ann McMurray, and to April Dodd, her caregiver, for the loving care, kindness, and support they provided to Elouise over the last year.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that her hope and trust was placed in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Funeral services will be held Monday at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m., with Bro. David Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Marshall Memorial Gardens.
