Eloise Meyer was born at home in Cullman, Alabama on September 23, 1926, to Zela and Gordan Daniel. Eloise was one of three children, a younger brother, Clyde and an older brother, Ralph. The Daniel family were long time residents of Cullman until her father moved to Huntsville to work at Redstone Arsenal during the War.

As a young girl Eloise attended Sacred Heart Academy in Cullman for a short while and later attended business school where she learned secretarial skills. During this period of her life, she met Delwin Meyer who was going through flight training at Courtland Army Airfield and Pryor Army Airfield near Decatur, Alabama. Following Delwin’s graduation from flight school they were married on March 31, 1945. Michael Van Meyer was born to them on December 20, 1945, at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi. Eloise, Michael, and Del spent the next 23 years as an Air Force family. Subsequent military assignments were at Yokota AFB, Japan, Riverside AFB, California, Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, Ramey AFB, Puerto Rico, Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, Castle AFB, California and Beale AFB, California where he retired. During many of these assignments Eloise worked secretarial civil service jobs for the Air Force.

Following his retirement from the Air Force, Del and Eloise moved to Huntsville, Alabama where they played an active role at Grace Lutheran Church. Eloise continued her civil service work by joining NASA in the early days of the organization. She experienced working for them during all the interesting activities leading up to the moon landing. She excelled in her secretarial endeavors and retired as Executive Secretary to the Director of Engineering.

Eloise was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 4:15 p.m.

She is survived by her son, Michael Meyer and wife, Gail; two grandchildren, Brian, and Matthew Meyer; as well as two great-grandchildren from Matthew and Chasity Meyer, Alysia, and Jayden Meyer.
