Elkmont Woman Dies In Single-Vehicle Accident Near Athens

ATHENS-On Wednesday, February 3 the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency issued a statement concerning a single-vehicle accident that occurred near Athens that has taken the life of one person and sent another person to hospital:

“A single-vehicle crash at approximately 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, has claimed the life of an Elkmont woman. 

Kimberly Michele Carter, 52, was fatally injured when the 2002 Chevy Silverado she was driving left the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned, ejecting her.  Carter, who was not using her seat belt, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The passenger in the Silverado was injured and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

 Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor to the crash.  The crash occurred on Sandlin Road near Fain Road, approximately nine miles north of Athens. 

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.”
