Elizabeth “Betty” Cox Hood age 82 of Killen passed away on Tuesday March 11, 2014. Visitation will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Florence on Saturday March 15th from 2 until 4 p.m., with the Memorial Service at 4 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Richard Gillespie officiating.
Betty was survived by her husband Henry L. Hood of 62 years; two daughters, Claire Donaldson (Eugene) of Homewood, Alabama, Ann McClure (Garry) of Huntsville, Alabama; four grandchildren, Lee McClure (Jamie) of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Thomas McClure of Huntsville, Alabama, Deborah Donaldson of Homewood, Alabama and Martin Donaldson of Atlanta, Georgia and two great-grandsons; Miller and Carter McClure.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Marion Cox of Union Springs, Alabama.
Betty attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia and Auburn University where she graduated in 1952 with a BS in Elementary Education. While at Auburn she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority, Homecoming Queen and a Glomerata Beauty. She taught at Randolph School and in the Madison County School District. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Florence and a member of The Firenze Study Club. Betty enjoyed refinishing and collecting Early American furniture. She loved the beach and spending time with family.
