Elizabeth (Bettie) Elliott Lewter, age 95, passed away peacefully at home with family June 22nd, 2026.
She is preceded in death by her son, James Donald Lewter, Jr. (Donnie), as well as her brother, Alton D. Elliott, Jr. (Brother), and her sister, Lida Elliott Porter.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 75 years, James Donald Lewter; daughter, Doran Lewter Stamps (Gary); son, Mac E. Lewter (Barbara); grandchildren, Samuel Elliott Stamps (Janelle), Elizabeth Stamps LeBerte (Patrick) and Jincy Louise Lewter, as well as four great grandchildren.
Born in Tallassee, Alabama, Bettie was raised in cotton mill towns across the South, eventually settling in Huntsville. She was a true southern lady and matriarch of the Lewter family. She was a homemaker who enjoyed her friends, decorating, gardening and cooking. She was well known for her legendary buttermilk biscuit that were loved by all. She will be greatly missed but family will be sustained by a lifetime of wonderful memories.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 11:00 am at Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the CUP Fund at First United Methodist Church, 120 Greene Street, Huntsville, AL 35801.
