Elizabeth Ann Ray Walker – Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Ray Walker, age 91, passed away Friday, February 16 at her home. A native Huntsvillian, she was born to William Herbert and Elizabeth Stricklin Ray and was the second baby and first baby girl born in Huntsville Hospital just two months after its opening.  She lived most of her life in Huntsville.

Over the years she served as a hospital Gray Lady, belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, GFWC du Midi Woman’s Club, and was a member of First Baptist Church. She was in retail sales for many years and was a buyer for the original Jean’s Dress Shop.

She was predeceased by her husband, Latham O. Walker. She is survived by daughters, Sherry Calvert and husband, Jeffrey, and Diana Ings and husband, William III; son, Gary Cooper and wife Gwen; sisters, Gwen Walker and Johnnie Hall; brother, William Herbert Ray, Jr.; five grandchildren, Charles Potts (Benji Morgan), Deborah Ings (Charles Grube), William Ings IV (Sarah), Lauren Buckalew (Nathan) and Allison Henderson (Joseph); four great-grandchildren, Colin Claytor, Alexandra Potts, Madeleine Ings and Samantha Ings; two sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces, other family members; and a host of friends.

A very special thank you to Hospice Family Care and her loving caregivers.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a. m. until 12:00 noon Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.  A private family burial will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers it is requested that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
