TUSCUMBIA – A woman filled with grace describes Mrs. Heflin. According to reports, Mrs. Heflin had for the last several years suffered failing health.

She passed away Wednesday in the home she shared for decades with her husband, the late Howell Heflin. Mrs. Heflin and her husband were a team. She never sought the limelight. She was instead a unfailing supporter of her husband and his career. Howell Heflin served in World War II; practiced law in Tuscumbia; was elected Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court; and was a 3-term United States Senator. He died in 2005.
