Elbert Sorrell, Sr., 86, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday February 10, 2026. Born May 20, 1939, in Ramsey, West Va. to Roy Cole & Hettie Sorrell. He was one of thirteen children. Elbert worked in the coal mines of West Va. before moving to Ohio. Working in manufacturing most of his life and settling mainly in Sandusky, where he raised four sons. Moving to Mississippi many years ago, he settled in Marks, in the little neighborhood of Belen. He loved hunting and fishing, attending church, reading his Bible and sharing his faith in Jesus. He was a faithful member of Belen Baptist Church – Marks, MS attending every time the doors were open and his health would allow.

Preceded in death by his parents and five sisters and four brothers, his wife Geraldine in 2008 and son, Steven in 2014, also his step granddaughter Katie Ray.

Survived by his two sisters, Wayveline of WV, and Buelah, his brother Garry (Betty) and his sons, Elbert Jr, Richard, and Timothy (Poppy) of Ohio, as well as his stepson Tim Ray and stepdaughter Cathy Ray, and special friend, Mary Catherine Atwood of Pontotoc, MS.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2PM Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Belen Baptist Church in Marks, MS with Bro. Greg Cook officiating. Visitation will begin at 12PM and continue to service time with burial following in Belen Baptist Church Cemetery.
