ITAWAMBA COUNTY–A theft ring that crossed from Alabama into Mississippi has resulted in the arrest of eight suspects.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Department in Alabama along with Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and Itawamba County Sheriff’s Department in Mississippi worked together to arrest the suspects on theft charges.
Investigators say numerous vehicles including all-terrain-vehicles were being stolen and taken along state and county lines. The stolen items were then traded for drugs and/or cash.
The following were arrested:
Justin Allen Wilson, 29, of Tremont is charged with three counts of grand larceny in Mississippi and one count in Alabama. He is in the Itawamba County jail on a $100,000 bond awaiting to be extradited to Alabama.
Dwayne Tomlin, 37, of Tremont is charged with two counts of grand larceny in Mississippi. He is in the Itawamba County jail on a $60,000 bond awaiting to be extradited to Alabama.
Bobby Carl Leach, 46, of Smithville is charged with one count of grand larceny. He is in the Itawamba County jail on a $50,000 bond.
Jamie Wayne Leach, 28, of Smithville is charged with one count of grand larceny. He is in the Itawamba County jail on a $50,000 bond.
James Dylan Brown, 18, of Mantachie is charged with one count of grand larceny in Alabama. He is in the Itawamba County jail awaiting extradition to Alabama.
Christopher Brown, 35, of Fulton is charged with two counts of grand larceny in Alabama and is on a Circuit Court bond for the City of Fulton. He is in the Itawamba County jail. He was on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
During this roundup, investigators located two convicted felons that was avoiding detection from MDOC and allegedly involved with the theft ring.
Pat Brown, 37, of Mantachie and Melissa Margaret Sweat, 32 of Golden are both being held in the Itawamba County jail.
