Effie Lee Johnson, 89 of Decatur, passed away on Monday February 6, 2023. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10 from 11-12 PM with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 12 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor George Sawyer officiating. She will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery.
Effie is survived by her sisters Martha, Nellie brother David. Her children Judy Melillo (James), Bryan Johnson, Michele Borden (Daris), grandchildren Jennifer Hunt, Jason Metz, Chris Melillo, Ashley Tamblyn, Shawn Kaszmetskie, Becky Childers, Jeremiah Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Mackenzie Borden and Nicholas Borden; 11 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Raymond C. Johnson, daughter Cheryl Kaszmetskie, father William Harvey Walker, mother Lela Mae Walker, brothers Floyd Walker, Eddie Walker, James Walker, and William Thomas Walker, sisters Flora Mae Kirkland, and Evelyn Duncan.
Effie was born and raised in Grant, AL and moved to Albertville in her teens.
She attended the D.A.R. School in Grant, AL. At the age of 18 she relocated to Cleveland, OH, met and married Ray and raised their 4 children there. Upon Ray’s retirement they relocated to Decatur, AL where she worked at Martin’s Clothing Store until she retired in 1995. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved the Lord since she was a teen leaving a wonderful Godly Christian Heritage.
Pallbearers will be Jason Metz, Jeremiah Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Shawn Kaszmetskie, Nicholas Borden, Barry Childers, and honor pallbearer Christopher Schaffer.
