Edwin W. “Ed” Mattox, Sr. 71, died Monday, May 30, 2016, at Select Hospital-Biloxi, MS following an extended illness. He was born January 15, 1945 in Tupelo to Edward Milton Mattox and Mary Estelle Crawford Mattox. He was a graduate of Tupelo High School and earned a Bachelor Degree in Business from the University of Mississippi. Ed married Martha Jane Walls Dec. 24, 1975 and they made their home in the Brewer Community where they lived for 41 years. He worked many years as a Certified Water System Operator for Brewer Water Assoc., as well as the Shannon and Verona Police Departments. He also served his country in the U.S. Navy during peace time. He policed in the Grove of Ole Miss during football games and was a member of the MS Rural Water Association. He enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles. He was a member of Verona United Methodist Church.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 2 PM at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Police Honors. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 5 PM -7 PM at Holland Funeral Directors, Tupelo Chapel and from Noon to service time Thursday. A graveside service will follow if weather permits at Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Jane Mattox of Brewer; one son, Eddie Mattox of Chicago, IL; two step-daughters, Tammie Wilson (Randy) of Tupelo and Roxanne Rogers (Mike) of Brewer; two sisters, Marilyn Riddle of Williamsburg, VA and Cecile Hines (Bill) of Tupelo; three grandchildren, Mindy Ferguson, Justin Rogers, and Donald Easterling; three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be the Shannon Police Dept. officers and honorary pallbearers will be the Lee Co. Sheriff’s Dept.
