Edward Humes Laughlin, MD Edward Humes Laughlin, MD, age 87, died on Memorial Day, March 25. A third generation Huntsvillian, and general surgeon who specialized in surgical oncology, he was the son of the late Dr. James Burnett and Cleophas Mahoney Laughlin and was preceded in death by his sister Mary Jane (Mrs.Billy) Fleming, and brother James Burnett Laughlin.

Survivors include daughters Page Easter, Nannette Hutchens, Hollis Volk, Leedy Laughlin, and numerous grandchildren.

A graduate of the University of Virginia, and Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Laughlin was the first chairman of surgical programs at the School of Primary Care, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and was a retired professor of surgery at the UAB School of Medicine in Huntsville. He was the author of three books on cancer, and more than fifty medical articles and many entertaining short stories on his history in Huntsville. Memberships included the American College of Surgeons, Medical Association of the State of Alabama, Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the HOF.

Remembrances may be made to favored charities.
