Edward Freed Bullington, 91 of Athens, passed away on Sunday, December 12th, 2021, at his residence. Mr. Bullington was born on August 26th, 1930, to Edward Henderson and Olna Wigginton Bullington.
Mr. Bullington is survived by his wife Martha “Mot” Bullington; sons Alan Freed Bullington (Kathleen), Kimball Edward Bullington (Dinah), and Stanley Fred Bullington (Leanne); grandchildren Matthew Bullington (Meagan), Kaitlyn Vest (Paul), Amy Bullington, Craig Bullington (Molly), Lucas Bullington, Will Bullington (Julianne), Maggie Bullington, Suzanne Bullington, Isaac Bullington (Karmen), Chad Bullington (Abigail), Andrew Bullington (Sara), Martha Joy Bullington, Nicole Bullington, Alei Bullington; great-grandchildren Mercy Bullington, Mollie Bullington, Matty Freed Bullington, and Kristen Bullington; and siblings Harris Barnard Bullington and Marilyn Bullington Garrett.
Preceded in death by his parents; and sister Carolyn Muse McClard.
Funeral services for Dr. Bullington will be Thursday, December 16th, 2021, at 11:00am at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, with Stephen Russell and John Gibson officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 9:00-10:45am. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
Dr. Bullington served in the Air Force in Japan during the Korean War, operating a radar station as a tech sergeant. Subsequently, he became a rocket engineer for NASA and the U.S. Army, where he rose to the civilian rank of deputy-director/acting director of the Army Missile Intelligence Agency. He was decorated with the National Intelligence Medal of Achievement by William Casey, director of central intelligence, for a career of exceptional service to his country.
“Mr. Freed” tutored high school and college students in math and science. He served on the board of Athens Bible School. He also served as an elder and teacher at Pepper Road Church of Christ.
Flowers will be appreciated or donations to Athens Bible School or Hospice of Limestone County.
