Edward “Eddie” Wilder Smith, age 85, of Decatur, Alabama passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Edward Wilder Smith, 85, of Decatur, AL passed away on August 17, 2025. Ed was born on May 26, 1940, to Cecil Harold Smith and Martha Porter Wilder in Gadsden, AL. He was a graduate of Gadsden High School and the University of Alabama where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He served his country proudly as an officer in the United States Air Force. He was a resident of Decatur, AL since 1972.

In Decatur, he was a member of First Presbyterian Church serving as Chairman of the Diaconate. He was a member of the Decatur Country Club. Ed retired from Wyle Labs of Huntsville, AL, after 33 years of service. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Charles Harold Smith.

He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Brenda Blackshear Smith and sons Edward Wilder Smit, Jr (Carol) of Florence, AL , Robert Franklin Smith (Libby) of Huntsville, Montgomery Alexander Smith (Elizabeth) of Demopolis, eight grandchildren, one great grandson, and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman. He thoroughly enjoyed the out of doors and found joy in sharing those passions with members of the younger generations.

A service for Eddie will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 2 P.M. with a visitation an hour prior held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church 3310 Danville Rd SW, Decatur, AL 35603.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Presbyterian Home for Children, Talladega, AL or St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Decatur, AL.
