Edward Dewey “E.D” Bentley

Mr. Edward Dewey “E.D” Bentley of Hazel Green went to be with the Lord on Sunday.  He was 87.  He was a faithful Christian and a member of New Market Baptist Church.

Mr. Bentley was a life-long resident of the Hazel Green Community and had graduated from Hazel Green High School in 1954.  He spent his career as a machinist and had retired from Redstone Arsenal.  He was an avid Alabama football fan and enjoyed collecting antiques.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth Bell Bentley;  His parents, Dewey Clifford Bentley & Fannie Ora Bentley; His brother, Billy Ray Bentley.

Surviving family members include his wife of almost 28 years, Joan Britton Bentley; His daughter, Diane (Bruce) Mills;  His daughter, Ginger (Jeff) Cope;  He was also loved by Joan’s children: Roger (Kathy) Britton; Kelly (Wayne Dollar) Britton; Robert (Janet) Britton; Yvonne Britton (Barry) Hillis; Doris Britton (Heath) Quick.

He is also survived by his and Joan’s grandchildren: Nikki Yell Bullard, Chris Mills, Ray Cope, Jim Ed Mills, Victoria Greer, Kacie Hicks, Skyler Kidd, Corey Britton, Cody Britton, Hunter Graham, and Tyra Leiser, along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5pm until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Friday at 2pm at the funeral home with Reverend Bobby Eads and Reverend Eddie Clardy officiating.  Music will be provided by Roger Britton and Doris Britton Quick.

E.D. will be remembered for the long and happy life that he lived and for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
