Edsel Ulysses Hardin – Obituary

Funeral service for Edsel Ulysses Hardin, age 92, of Decatur, will be Wednesday,  February 28, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Taylor and Bro. Jeff Sellers officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Hardin, who died Sunday, February 25, 2018, at his residence,  was born March 19, 1925 , in Lawrence County , to Arthur and Linnie Tucker Hardin. He was proceeded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Mr. Hardin was a WW II Navy Veteran and an active barber at City Barber Shop until November 2017. He never retired. He was a member of East End United Methodist Church and Sunday School teacher  for 50 plus years and a current member of Austinville United Methodist Church. He and his wife, the love of his life would have celebrated their 73 rd wedding anniversary on April 13 of this year.

He is survived by his wife, Earlene Shelton Hardin; one son, Lynn Hardin (Beth), of Decatur; two daughters, Gail Garner (Paul), of Birmingham and Revenia Thompson (Kenny) of Hartselle; one brother, Eldon Hardin (Kathleen), of Birmingham; four grandchildren, Lori Bailey (Brad), Ashley Thompson, Leah Knight (David) and Zach Brock; four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ashley Thompson, Brad Bailey, Zach Brock, David Knight, Wayne Carver and Lafarris Hardin. Honorary pallbearer will be Don Houston a working partner and close friend of 53 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Austinville United Methodist Church Building fund, 908 Lamar St., S.W., Decatur, Alabama 35601 or Hospice of the Valley, P.O. Box 2745, Decatur, Alabama 35602
