Obituary of Edna Johnson Wade Edna Wade went to meet her Heavenly Father on June 5, 2025 at the age of 101. She was born on March 11, 1924 in Benson, North Carolina to Jasper Mashburn and Ethel Morgan Mashburn. Edna lived in North Carolina and Bristol, Tennessee before moving to Cullman, Alabama in 1996. She was a graduate of Rex Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh, North Carolina. Edna was a member of St. Andrew’s Methodist Church.

Always considered an athlete, Edna was an all-state high school basketball player in North Carolina. She loved playing golf and played her last 18 holes at the age of 95. She was also an avid bridge player where she made many new friends in Cullman.

Edna was preceded in death by husbands Dr. William H. Johnson and John W. Wade, parents, brothers Hugh Mashburn, James T. Mashburn and Wayne Mashburn and a sister, Maud McCombs.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Dr. Bruce and Leigh Lee, grandsons Matt Lee (Abby) and Jordan Lee (Kristen), and two precious great-grandchildren Baker Jordan Lee and Nova DeLane Lee. Special friends include her “family” at The Neighborhood assisted living in Cullman and the women of St. Andrew’s Church.

A private service will be held for her in Bristol, Tennessee where she will be entombed next to her husband Dr. William Johnson. Her family requests that any memorials be made to the women and children of St. Andrew’s Church, 615 Main Ave, S.W., Cullman, Alabama 35055.
