Edith Sybert Tucker – Obituary

EdithEdith Sybert Tucker died July 6, 2013. A funeral service will be held for Mrs. Tucker on Tuesday, July 9, at 1 p.m. at Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home with Dr. Steven C. Chandler officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Tucker was born on February 23, 1922, in Hartselle, Alabama, the cherished daughter of Lelden and Lois Hanes Sybert, both of whom predeceased her. As a child she witnessed the construction of the stonework in Delano Park over which her grandfather, Arthur Hanes, was the foreman and lead stonemason. She graduated from Riverside High School. On November 6, 1942, Mrs. Tucker married Farrell G. Tucker, the love of her life. They celebrated 57 years of marriage prior to his death on June 3, 2000. Mrs. Tucker is survived by one aunt, Sue Higdon, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; and numerous cousins.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Tucker worked for 33 years as the communications operator for Wolverine Tube. Mrs. Tucker will be remembered for her love of family and friends, her appreciation of the beauty of God’s earth, especially roses, and for the charity she bestowed on others. Mrs. Tucker and her late husband established the Farrell and Edith Sybert Tucker Scholarship at Freed-Hardeman University which has assisted many students over the years.
