Mrs. Edith Thompson was born Aug. 25,1923, in Riverton, Alabama to the late Benjamin Daniel and the late Sallie Metcalf Rutland. She departed this life on Nov. 17, 2014.
Edith “Mu” Thompson confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and became a member of Rutland Chapel C.M.E. Church and later united with Cherokee C.M.E. Church. She was an active member serving the Missionary Board, Stewardess Board and Choir.
Edith’s hobbies were talking on the phone, canning, quilting, gardening, fishing, and watching her favorite baseball team on TV the Atlanta Braves. She enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her father, mother, five brothers, two sisters, and a son, William Henry Thompson.
She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Carl “Gene” Thompson; three daughters, Irene Bracy, Marilyn (James) Hollingsworth, and Melissa (Sidney) Nalls; three grandsons, Jeffery Hollingsworth, Marvin Hollingsworth, and Williams Thompson Jr; six granddaughters, Rhonda (Carlos) Benton, Latricia White, Joi Thompson, Elynia Thompson, Sydnei Nall, and Syara Nall; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Robert Thompson; a devoted niece, Dorothy Minor; a special friend, Bertha Fuqua(Houston); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation with the family will be today, 6-8 p.m., at Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, Alabama.
Funeral services for Mrs. Thompson will be
noon Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at Cherokee Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Cherokee, Alabama, with the
Rev. Zethelyn Johnson officiating.
The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Cherokee C.M.E. Church Cemetery, Cherokee, Alabama.
Public viewing will be today, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at
Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Tuscumbia.
