Edith Kay Long was born on April 27, 1941, in Enid, Oklahoma, to James Stout Sr. and Florence

Bogardus Stout. She married the love of her life, Harold Long, on May 31, 1958 just before she

graduated from Enid High School. Marriage and family became the center of her world.

Edith and Harold built their life together around family, faith, and serving others. Together, they

raised four children in Perry, OK: James D (JD), Janet (Jan), Johnny (John), and Joe. Edith devoted

herself to being a stay-at-home mother, until the children were older; giving her time to care for the

people she loved most. Her dedication to her family was an important part of who she was, and the

love she poured into her children continues through the generations that followed. Her

children’s spouses added to her joy, Shari Long, Beverly Long, Becky Long. In addition to caring for

her family, Edith worked at Ditch Witch in Perry, Oklahoma, before retiring.

She also enjoyed hobbies that brought her happiness. In her earlier years, she enjoyed playing the

violin, collecting coins and beanie babies. In her later years, she spent every chance she could with

her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These interests were part of the many things

that made her unique and added to the memories her loved ones will continue to treasure.

Edith’s heart extended across generations to her 7 grandchildren and their spouses; Nate (Charity)

Long, Michelle (Jonathan) Jones, Treena (Chris) Mackinlay, Amy (Elyar) Sanchez, Jonathan Long,

David (Grayson) Long, and Cameron Pamerantz, and 13 great-grandchildren whom she treasured

deeply. Her family is a lasting part of her legacy, carrying forward the memories, lessons, and love

she shared throughout her life.

Her faith was an important part of her life. She and Harold were members of the Church Street

Church of Christ in Lewisburg, TN. Faith and service were meaningful parts of their lives

together. Guided by servant hearts, they spent about 30 years as Sojourners, traveling the country

in their RV to provided extended service to churches and orphanages, to encourage others, and to

share their faith.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Long; her parents, James Stout Sr. and

Florence Bogardus Stout; and her siblings, Lavern and James, Jr. (Jimmy).

Although Edith will be deeply missed, her life leaves behind a legacy that reaches far beyond the

years she lived. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her faith, her servant’s

heart, and the many ways she touched the lives of those around her. She has stored up many

treasures in heaven.

Today, as family and friends gather to honor Edith’s life, they can take comfort in the memories they

shared. Her story lives on in the family she raised, the relationships she cherished, and the lasting

impact of a life devoted to loving and caring for others.

Edith’s life was a gift to those who knew her, and she will forever hold a special place in the hearts

of those who loved her. Edith will be remembered for her quiet strength, her generous spirit, and

her unconditional devotion to those she loved. Her story lives on in the family she treasured and the

lives she touched.
